Bio

Chris Bishopp is a proven leader with decades of experience in aviation safety, operations, and public service, shaped by his early service as a Naval Flight Officer in the United States Navy. A graduate of Saugerties High School, Chris attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill on a Navy ROTC scholarship, earning a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and commissioning as an Ensign in 1983. He later earned a Master of Public Administration from Georgia College, strengthening his focus on effective, accountable government.

After serving on active duty from 1983 to 1990, Chris continued his commitment to public safety with the Federal Aviation Administration. Over more than three decades, he worked as an Air Traffic Controller, Supervisor, and Quality Control specialist, helping ensure the safety of millions of passengers and the reliability of our national airspace. Chris is a longtime member of the National Air Traffic Controllers Association and served for several years as Legislative Representative for the Greensboro Air Traffic Control Tower, advocating for aviation safety, workers, and responsible public policy. He brings steady leadership, operational expertise, and a strong sense of duty to the work of serving his community.

Priorities

Education

Cabarrus County is growing fast, and our schools need to keep up. Chris believes North Carolina’s future starts with strong public schools that give every student a real path forward, whether that is college, skilled trades, or military service. He supports investing in teachers, modern classrooms, and career and technical education partnerships that reflect the workforce needs of communities like Cabarrus County. At the same time, he believes we must be honest about the strain caused by underfunding and the unchecked expansion of voucher programs that divert resources away from local public schools.

Affordability

Families in Cabarrus County are feeling the pressure of rising housing costs, higher utility bills, and everyday expenses that keep climbing. Chris supports practical, bipartisan solutions that focus on keeping North Carolina affordable for working families and retirees alike. That includes responsible tax policy, smart infrastructure investments to manage growth, and protecting homeowners from being priced out of their communities. He believes economic growth should lift local families, not leave them behind.

Health Care

Access to reliable, affordable health care is essential as Cabarrus County continues to grow. Chris supports protecting recent progress in expanding coverage, strengthening local hospitals and clinics, and improving access to mental and behavioral health care. With a career spent in safety-critical public service, he believes health care decisions should be guided by data, accountability, and a focus on long-term stability for patients, providers, and communities across North Carolina.

Together, we can move our community forward.
